The Odes of Solomon: 33

Virgin OransA continuation of the Commentary on the Odes of Solomon for Awakening.

Grace again ran and left the Corruptor, and came down upon him to bring him to naught.
And he made utter destruction from before him, and devastated all his array.
And he stood on a lofty summit and cried aloud, from one end of the earth to the other.
And he drew to him all those who obeyed him, and he did not appear as the Evil One.
But the Perfect Virgin stood, Who was proclaiming and summoning and saying:
O ye sons of men return ye, and ye their daughters come.
And leave the ways of that Corruptor, and draw near unto me.
And I will enter into you, and bring you forth from destruction, and I will make you wise in the ways of truth.
Be not corrupted, nor perish.
Hear ye me and be saved, for the grace of God I am proclaiming in you.
And by my means you shall be redeemed and become blessed: I am your judge.
And they who have put me on shall not be falsely accused, but they shall possess incorruption in the new world.
My chosen ones have walked in me, and my ways I will make known to them that seek me, and I will promise them my Name. Alleluia.

Grace again ran and left the Corruptor, and came down upon him to bring him to naught.

Considering the subsequent self-destruction of the Corruptor, obviously Grace blinded him and led him to his doom, much as do the witches in Macbeth. There is a force of righteousness in the universe that is not vengeful but which causes the truth of things to be revealed and darkness to be dispelled, often by its own actions.

And he made utter destruction from before him, and devastated all his array.

The Corruptor, engaged in reflexive destruction, destroyed all of his own supports, sources of power and followers, just as addictive substances eventually destroy those so enamored of and enslaved to them.

And he stood on a lofty summit and cried aloud, from one end of the earth to the other. And he drew to him all those who obeyed him, and he did not appear as the Evil One.

The Corruptor drew to himself all those who had an affinity with him. To many, if not most, “he did not appear as the Evil One.” But as Saint Paul wrote: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works” (II Corinthians 11:14-15).

But the Perfect Virgin stood, Who was proclaiming and summoning and saying: O ye sons of men return ye, and ye their daughters come. And leave the ways of that Corruptor, and draw near unto me. And I will enter into you, and bring you forth from destruction, and I will make you wise in the ways of truth.

The power of incorruption, the Perfect Virgin, the Cosmic Orderer, the Holy Spirit, ever calls to us in the depths of our being as well as outside us, urging all humanity to come to her Light, leaving behind the darkness of the Corruptor, and draw near to her. In Ecclesiasticus 24:26 she also calls: “Come over to me.”

Those who heed the call shall be “filled with the Holy Spirit” and led by her out of the darkness of spiritual destruction. She shall open the eyes of their spirit and make them “wise in the ways of truth,” for she is the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17).

Be not corrupted, nor perish. Hear ye me and be saved, for the grace of God I am proclaiming in you. And by my means you shall be redeemed and become blessed: I am your judge. And they who have put me on shall not be falsely accused, but they shall possess incorruption in the new world.

The teaching and illumination of the Holy Spirit is a profoundly internal matter, and her way alone is the way of blessedness. Yet she is also judge and conveys to us her judgment regarding our ways. But she also empowers us to conform ourselves to her ways. Then they shall in truth “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4) and incorruption, in the eternal kingdom.

My chosen ones have walked in me, and my ways I will make known to them that seek me, and I will promise them my Name.

This alone is the path of life: living in God, knowing the ways of God and knowing God through his Word.
