We continue to add more useful content to OCOY.org, and this month have added three important articles:
- The first is the The Bhagavad Gita for Singing , a translation of the Bhagavad Gita arranged according to the meter of the original Sanskrit text so it can be sung–as it is done every morning in most of the ashrams of India.
- The second is the The Maharshi Gita, which is an arrangement of verses of the Bhagavad Gita made by Sri Ramana Maharshi that gives an overview of the essential message of the Gita.
- The third is the Six Systems of Hindu Philosophy—One of the best introductions to these systems (Yoga, Sankhya, Vaishesika, Nyaya, Purva Mimansa and Vedanta), by Raghavan Iyer. Professor Iyer summarizes the need for varying viewpoints in the article:
“Indian philosophical schools could not see themselves as exclusive bearers of the total Truth. They emerged together from a long-standing and continuous effort to enhance our common understanding of God, Man and Nature, and they came to be considered as darshanas or paradigmatic standpoints shedding light from different angles on noumenal and phenomenal realities. They refrained from claiming that any illumination which can be rendered in words–or even in thoughts–can be either final or complete.”
We have also added a brief author’s biography of Abbot George Burke (Swami Nirmalananda).
